MMDCEs Given 7 Days to Remove Illegal Billboards in Accra

The Ministry of Local Government has given Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) a one-week deadline to remove all unauthorized billboards across the Greater Accra Region. The directive is part of efforts to improve urban order and enhance the visual appeal of the capital. Deputy Minister Rita Naa Odoley Sowah announced the decision during an inspection tour of parts of Accra. She raised concerns about the growing number of unregulated billboards, noting that they not only clutter the city but also pose safety risks to residents. According to her, local authorities must act within the seven-day period or face further action, as government steps up measures to sanitize the capital. The move has been welcomed by the Advertising Association of Ghana. Executive Director Isaac Cudjoe described the directive as timely and necessary but emphasized that its success will depend on strict and consistent enforcement. The exercise forms part of a broader plan to make Accra cleaner, more organized, and globally competitive.
